WhatsApp voice message to text: transcribe and translate a voice note

A four-minute voice note in a meeting, a message in a language you do not speak, an audio you need to keep in writing: reading is often easier than listening. Voqia turns a WhatsApp voice message into text in your browser, and helps you understand it in English when it was recorded in another language. Your first 10 minutes are free, with no credit card.

WhatsApp transcripts or Voqia?

WhatsApp can now show a transcript of voice messages on some phones and in some languages (the option, when available, is in the chat settings). For a short note in a supported language, it is the quickest way.

Voqia is useful when you need more: the text outside WhatsApp (to paste into an email, a report or a case file), long notes, a language your phone does not transcribe, an AI summary, or a translation.

Step 1: get the audio file out of WhatsApp

WhatsApp keeps voice messages inside the app, so you first save the file. The menus change between versions; the usual paths are:

On Android

Long-press the voice message, tap Share, then save it to your files or send it to yourself (email, cloud drive). The file usually ends in .opus.

On iPhone

Long-press the voice message, tap Forward, then the share icon, and choose Save to Files. You can then pick the file from the Files app when you upload it.

On WhatsApp Web

Open the message menu (the small arrow on the voice message) and choose Download if it is offered. This is the simplest route if you want to use Voqia on a computer.

Step 2: transcribe the voice message

  1. Go to voqia.fr and sign in with your Google account (10 free minutes, no credit card).
  2. Open File mode and upload the voice message. WhatsApp's .opus and .ogg files are accepted, like MP3, M4A and WAV.
  3. Start the transcription: the spoken language is detected automatically and the text appears with timestamps.
  4. Copy the text, download it as a Word document (.docx), or ask for an AI summary.

Translate a WhatsApp voice message

The transcript is written in the language that was spoken. If you do not understand that language, Voqia offers two ways to follow it in English:

The AI summary, in English

The AI summary is written in the language of the interface: use Voqia in English and a voice note in Spanish, Arabic or Turkish is summarized in English (context, key points, actions). Ideal for long notes where you need the gist.

A full live translation, on a computer

Open WhatsApp Web in a Chrome or Edge tab on a computer, start Voqia's Live mode, share that tab with its audio, turn on the Translate transformation, then play the voice message. Only a browser tab can be captured, not the WhatsApp desktop app. Each sentence appears in the original language and in the target language: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese or Arabic.

Which languages can be transcribed?

Voqia transcribes English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese and Arabic, and also Russian and Turkish through automatic language detection. Voice notes are often recorded on the move, with wind, traffic or a TV in the background, and sometimes mix two languages: try your own messages with the free minutes, and reread names and numbers before relying on the text.

Privacy and good manners

  • A voice message is personal: only upload messages you are entitled to use, and ask the sender if the content is sensitive.
  • Voqia is published by waitech france and hosted on a server in France.
  • No advertising cookies and no third-party trackers: only the technical cookies the site needs.
  • Payments go through Stripe: Voqia never sees your card number.

Pricing

Transcription is counted on the length of the audio: a 2-minute voice note uses about 2 minutes, so the 10 free minutes cover several messages. After that, you buy minutes once, with no subscription: €4.99 for 1 hour, €9.99 for 3 hours or €24.99 for 10 hours. Minutes never expire. Outside the euro area, the secure Stripe payment page may show the amount in your own currency.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a WhatsApp voice message to text?

Save the voice message as a file from WhatsApp (Share or Forward, then save), upload it in Voqia's File mode and start the transcription. You get the text in a few moments and can copy it or export it to Word.

Does Voqia accept WhatsApp .opus files?

Yes. Voqia accepts .opus and .ogg voice messages as well as MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, FLAC and WebM audio, up to 500 MB per file.

Can Voqia translate a WhatsApp voice message?

Yes, in two ways: the AI summary is written in the interface language (English if you use Voqia in English), and Live mode can translate the message sentence by sentence while you play it in WhatsApp Web, in a browser tab on a computer, into 7 languages.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Voqia runs in the mobile browser: save the voice message to your files, then upload it in File mode. The live translation, which captures the computer's audio, needs a computer.

Is it free?

The first 10 minutes are free, without a credit card. Then one-time packs start at €4.99 for 1 hour, with no subscription.

Try it with your own voice: your first 10 minutes are free.
