What is AI voice cloning?

An AI voice clone is a model of your voice built from a sample recording: its timbre, its pitch, its rhythm. Once the clone exists, a text-to-speech engine uses it to say any new sentence in your voice, including sentences you never recorded.

Tips for a better voice clone

• Record in a quiet room without echo: a bedroom with curtains works better than a kitchen or a bathroom.
• Use a headset microphone or earphones with a mic, and keep the same distance from the microphone while you read.
• Aim for 30 to 50 seconds rather than the 10 second minimum: the clone captures more of your intonation.
• Read with the tone you want to hear later. A calm, even reading gives a calm voice; an energetic reading gives a more lively voice.
• If the result does not sound like you, delete the voice and record a new sample: it only takes a minute.

Only clone your own voice, or the voice of someone who has clearly agreed to it. Using a cloned voice to impersonate someone, mislead listeners or commit fraud is prohibited and may be illegal. When you publish content made with a cloned voice, telling your audience that the voice is AI-generated is good practice, and some platforms require it.
