Best AI transcription tools for podcast creators in 2026

If you also edit the episode, Descript is the strongest all-in-one choice. For large volumes of finished recordings, compare TurboScribe and Sonix. Voqia suits creators who want a transcript and an AI summary without a subscription, and Rev's human service is worth it when a quote must be exactly right.

These are choices by workflow, not an accuracy ranking: we did not run one shared audio test through every tool, and you should not trust a page that claims to have done it for your show. What we compared is what each company publishes: what you pay, how much audio that covers, which files you can take away, and whether the tool labels speakers.

How this comparison was made

  • Price and allowance: the regular price on each official pricing page, in the currency shown there, and how much audio it covers. Temporary discounts are left out.
  • Exports: the transcript and subtitle files each tool says you can download.
  • Speakers: whether the tool labels speakers. A speaker label is still a draft: listen before you attribute a sensitive quote to a guest.
  • Not scored: accuracy on your audio. Test the same extract of your own show in each tool you shortlist.
  • A US dollar price is not a checkout price in pounds, Australian or Canadian dollars: taxes and conversion can change what you pay.

Which tool for which show

Descript: you edit the episode as well

Descript makes sense when transcription is part of production: you correct words, work with separate tracks, cut the audio by editing text and prepare subtitles in the same project. A Manchester interview show that routinely cuts long conversations into shorter episodes gets more from that than from a transcript alone. If you already edit elsewhere and only need the final mix written out, a second monthly editor may add little.

TurboScribe: a busy upload queue

TurboScribe fits when the job is upload, read, export. Its subtitle files help a Toronto creator who also posts captioned clips. "Unlimited" describes the paid transcription allowance, not the absence of upload rules: check the file limits before sending a large archive.

Sonix: occasional files and caption exports

Sonix offers pay as you go for an uneven release schedule, with an editor, speaker labels and subtitle exports. That suits a Melbourne team that needs a readable interview transcript and caption files, but does not edit audio in the transcription tool. Hours are bought in advance, so compare the minimum purchase with your real backlog.

Voqia: a transcript and a first draft of show notes

Voqia suits an occasional creator with a finished recording who does not want another subscription. Upload the episode, get timestamped text with the host and guests told apart, rename the speakers, and ask for an AI summary to start your show notes. A 45-minute episode uses about 45 of the 60 minutes in the €4.99 pack; the rest stays on your account for the next one.

Rev: when the exact wording matters

For a routine Austin food podcast, an AI draft checked by the host is usually enough. For an investigative interview where a guest's exact words matter, budget for human transcription or an equally careful review.

What Voqia does, and what it does not

  • It accepts MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC and WebM audio, and MP4 or MOV video, up to 500 MB per file.
  • It transcribes English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese and Arabic, plus Russian and Turkish through automatic language detection. The language is detected for you.
  • In File mode, Speaker detection labels the host and guests; you rename them once for the whole transcript.
  • You copy the transcript or download it as a Word document; the AI summary (context, key points, actions) can be copied or downloaded too.
  • It does not import an episode from a link or RSS feed: you upload the file.
  • It does not export SRT or VTT subtitles, does not edit audio or separate tracks, and does not offer human-corrected transcripts.
  • Speaker labels come with File mode; Live mode does not label a studio panel the same way.
  • Prices are in euros and you pay once. If your card uses another currency (dollars, pounds…), the payment page may show the amount in your currency; otherwise your bank converts it automatically.

AI transcription or Rev's human service?

AI transcription gives you an editable draft in minutes: good for searching an interview, drafting show notes and finding clips. It can mishear names, lose words under intro music or give an interruption to the wrong person. Speaker labels help you find your way around a conversation; they do not settle who said a disputed sentence.

Human transcription is a different purchase. Rev advertises human transcription from $1.99 per minute with a 99%+ accuracy guarantee and delivery in 12 hours or less: those are Rev's service terms, not a promise that every name will be right. Tell the team about unusual names, and still check anything you will quote. Rev also sells AI transcription at $0.25 per minute; do not confuse the two.

A simple way to choose

  1. Cut a 5-minute extract that looks like your real show: the host's accent, a guest, an interruption and a recurring name.
  2. Run the same extract through each tool on your shortlist, with speaker labels on where offered, and compare words, timestamps and speaker changes while you listen.
  3. Open the file you will actually use: a Word document for an episode page, an SRT or VTT file if you publish captioned video. A timestamped document is not a subtitle file.
  4. Count the audio you expect each month, and compare a one-time pack, prepaid hours and a monthly allowance. Include editing time: the cheapest draft can need the longest clean-up.
  5. Before publishing, correct names and numbers, check speaker labels and confirm quotes against the audio.

Frequently asked questions

Which tool is best if I edit my podcast by editing text?

Descript, in this comparison: transcript-based editing and multitrack work are part of the product. Try it on a real episode before committing to the monthly plan.

Can Voqia identify the host and the guests?

Yes, for an uploaded file with Speaker detection turned on. You can rename the speakers, and you should check the labels where voices overlap.

Which tools export subtitle files?

Descript, TurboScribe and Sonix list SRT and VTT exports on their official pages. Voqia exports a timestamped transcript to Word or the clipboard, not SRT or VTT.

When should I pay for human transcription?

When the exact wording matters enough to justify the cost, or when nobody on the team has time to review an AI draft. Even then, check names and important quotes against the recording.

Can I try Voqia for free?

Yes. The first 10 minutes are free, without a credit card. Then one-time packs start at €4.99 for 1 hour, with no subscription.
